The Dharma Bums Aesthetic Response After the opening chapter of the novel in which the narrator writes, Just in my swim shorts, barefooted, wild-haired, in the red fire dark, singing, swigging wine, spitting, jumping, running- thats the way to live (7), I knew that the book was not only going to be interesting, but also great. I was not displeased after finishing it either. The Dharma Bums struck me as being one of the most fantastic books that I have ever read; one that contains an amazingly simple and captivating plot, an introduction and insight into the Buddhist philosophy and its followers of the 50s, and also contains the most provocative insight and philosophy about humanity and life. The first is Rays response to Japhy who is pa rtaking in yabyum and asks Ray to join. Id also gone through an entire year of celibacy based on my feeling that lust was the direct cause of birth which was the direct cause of suffering and death and I had really no lie come to a point where I regarded lust as offensive and even cruel. Pretty girls make graves, was my saying (29). I found this passage not only to be of extreme importance for it showed Rays dedication to Buddhism, but also very interesting and quite noble. In contrast to the promiscuous sexual behavior that is often glorified during the Beat generation (whether straight or gay) and even in some of Kerouacs novels (which, of course, now I am going to look at more closely to see if I may have been mistaken in my interpretation of his earlier works), Rays character who can be linked to Kerouacs literary voice, is really making the statement that these sexual desires are wrong. Computer Assisted Auditing Techniques Computer Assisted Auditing Techniques (CAATs) can be used to both validate application integrity and to verify data integrity. Data validation determines whether the source code has been compromised. The applications can be validated through test data, parallel simulation, or integrated test facilities. Test data is simply fabricated data entered into the system by the auditor to test the integrity of the system. For example, the auditor may process a payable through the system by creating a vendor and entering an amount to see the process of actually cutting a check from the system. An integrated test facility (ITF) can test applications as they are used on a daily basis. â€Å"The ITF approach integrates the auditor’s contrived test data through the client’s system along with the normal transaction processing† (Hunton, Bryant, Bagranoff, 2004, pg. 189). During the ITF process, auditors must ensure that the client’s data is not corrupted. All information entered into the system by the auditor should be reversed. Verifying data integrity is ensuring that the data was imported properly and without any irregularities. There are a number of audit tools that can be used to assist with verify integrity such as extracting data, importing it into ACL, and stratifying. Detecting fraud is important when verifying integrity. Audit Productivity Software Functions Audit productivity software provides computerized audit solutions and allows companies to manage and keep track of audit reports. Audit productivity software has a number of functions such as measuring productivity, resource optimization, data management, and automation. Measuring productivity is simply appraising the performance of the organizations audit reporting. By using audit productivity software, auditors and clients are able to get the best use of all of their resources. For example, each staff member’s time will be used adequately.
